Liberia International Airport (LIR) is the main gateway to Guanacaste and the closest airport to Tamarindo, located approximately 78 kilometers away. The journey takes about 1.5 hours under normal traffic conditions.

The most popular option for solo travelers and couples. A shared shuttle picks you up directly at your hotel in Tamarindo and drops you off at the airport terminal. Departures run daily at 9:00 AM, 2:00 PM, and 6:00 PM.

Departure Times

We offer three guaranteed daily departures from Tamarindo:

How Early Should You Arrive at LIR?

Liberia Airport recommends arriving 2 hours before domestic flights and 3 hours before international flights. Factor in the 1.5-hour drive when choosing your departure time.

For a 2:00 PM international flight, we recommend the 9:00 AM shuttle from Tamarindo.

What to Expect

Your driver will meet you at your hotel lobby at the scheduled time. Luggage is stored in the van's cargo area. The route takes Highway 21 north through Santa Cruz and Filadelfia before reaching Liberia.
